(57) Abstract :
This invention related to method for production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural from sucrose by using heterogeneous solid acid ICaT-2
catalyst in presence of mixture of solvents. The kinetic parameter study revealed that sucrose conversion and 5-hydroxymethyl
furfural yield are increased with increasing temperature and amount of catalyst. Sucrose conversion of 73 % with 5-hy doxy methyl
furfural yield 58 % is achieved after 60 min at 180 °C. Reactions are carried out in batch mode operation. Catalyst is recycled many
times without loss of its activity. Isolation procedure for 5-hydroxymethyl furfural is also discussed.
